Meet Our Senior Chiropractor
Thierry Mazer – Registered Chiropractor, member of the NZ Chiropractic Association
Thierry has gained thirty years of professional experience in musculoskeletal care. First, he worked as a physiotherapist in different European countries. To deepen his knowledge of articulation disorders, Thierry became a chiropractor after full five years of studies. During this time, he gained valuable expertise in accurately diagnosing and effectively managing various spine-related disorders.
On returning to his hometown in the South-West of France, he practised as a Senior Practitioner in a Medical Centre, working in co-ordination with General Practitioners, Specialists and the local Pain Management Centre. To develop his professional competence, he moved to Australasia.
After registering in NSW, Australia, he worked in Queenstown and set up a new practice in Alexandra, Central Otago. Finally. he took over the first practice established on the Hibiscus Coast, Orewa Chiropractic, in 2010.
His double degrees in healthcare professions led Thierry to lecture students from a wide range of European countries at the French-European Chiropractic Institute in Paris. This valuable experience gave him the desire to constantly update his skills and knowledge in managing a broad range of neuromusculoskeletal conditions with a new perspective. More specifically, Thierry has a profound interest in modern back and neck pain management, chronic in particular, to achieve the best outcomes for his patients.
In his spare time, he greatly enjoys running, skiing and supporting the All Blacks.
He is a member of the New Zealand Chiropractic Association, and ACC registered.

Unquestionably, our chiropractors are committed to providing the highest quality care tailored to anyone. They provide you with a rehabilitation programme. You will retrieve better well-being to enjoy your favourite activities again.
Thorough Examination and Comprehensible Assessment
Orewa Chiropractic approach is to provide a thorough examination and comprehensible assessment. Doctors of Chiropractic receive vast knowledge and competence in the differential diagnosis of musculoskeletal pain and disorders. This includes identifying joint dysfunction, myofascial syndrome, disc derangement or "slipped disc", and nerve entrapment. Visit our pages to learn a bit more about disc derangement or "slipped disc" nerve entrapment and uncommon but potentially more severe pain disorders.
History Taking
The visit starts with history taking, which is necessary to exclude severe conditions and then concentrate on the complaint's comprehensive understanding.
Physical Examination
We then proceed to the thorough physical examination, including postural analysis, assessment of movements and flexibility, stability and strength, and any neurological involvement.
Advanced Investigation
Occasionally, it is necessary to obtain further investigation such as X-Rays, CT scans or MRI (referral), but it is not recommended for common complaints.
In most cases, after history taking, examination and other investigations are completed, we establish the cause of the complaint. If the problem is determined to be treatable by our Hibiscus Coast chiropractors, a treatment strategy is formulated and recommended to you. We will discuss the plan with you before any treatment.
A Tailored Treatment By Our Hibiscus Coast Chiropractors
Our chiropractic approach aims to establish a personalised management strategy tailored to every patient. The treatment will focus on symptom relief and on sorting the original cause.
We plan the treatment course with consideration of individual needs and goals. We are committed to providing the most professional service for your condition in a warm and caring environment.
Chiropractic Adjustments
Chiropractic adjustments aim to restore a standard range of movement to joint presenting dysfunction and restriction. In addition, they alleviate pain and tightness, allowing the tissues to heal and recover their elasticity. Slower mobilisations may also be used.
Impulse IQ Instrument
This instrument was developed after ten years of research on three continents. This advanced technology can find the area of dysfunction, and the micro-computer inside will adapt the number and frequency of the inputs necessary for the treatment.
Myofascial Therapy
This technique treats muscle spasms with gentle stretches while repeated contractions stimulate weak muscles. Trigger points, muscle degeneration leading to referred pain, are corrected with gentle finger pressure techniques.
Strengthening, Stretching and Stabilisation
We have broad experience in the rehabilitation of spine and joint injuries. During the treatment, we will recommend various exercises according to your fitness level, from the basic Pilates concept to the most advanced practices using Swiss balls and elastic bands. At any time, check our website, which includes a comprehensive library of routines for multiple conditions. We will also advise you on appropriate aerobic activities that could help you, such as walking, running, cycling or swimming. Don't forget that having a reasonably good fitness level helps prevent and treat musculoskeletal injuries.
Self-Management
We will suggest a Home Exercise Programme and strategies that you can use at home or at work to help you recover from your condition.
Workplace Ergonomics
During your work time, home duties or recreational activities, your spine receives regular strains that can be the final straw leading to the symptoms you have experienced. You will receive advice to arrange your workplace and technique improvement when lifting, bending, getting up, etc.
The techniques used by our Hibiscus Coast Providers are proven to work
Our Hibiscus Coast chiropractors' techniques are scientifically proven to alleviate pain and other symptoms. They also improve the range of movement of the spine affected. Obviously, they are generally safe and very cost-effective compared to other medical methods.
Chiropractors recommend therapeutic exercises for rehabilitation. Furthermore, they provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle advice. The body then regains strength and flexibility. Thus, their patients return to their favourite recreational activities in a shorter time.
If chiropractic care is inappropriate for your condition or needs co-management, your practitioner will refer you to the relevant health care provider or medical doctor.
Chiropractic is a health profession regulated by the government health agency and the Chiropractic Board of New Zealand. Consequently, chiropractors are subject to the board's standards, codes (including ethics), and guidelines.
An Alternative to Medication and Surgery
"Studies show that patients treated by chiropractic receive immediate pain relief, better results and long-term satisfaction. "Close to 90% of herniated disc patients reported "good" or "excellent" improvement after approximately 13 chiropractic treatments. Over a year later, 80% still reported "good" or "excellent" improvement."
"82% of patients undergoing spinal manipulation therapy (SMT) for neck pain reported a 50% or greater reduction in pain; results were consistent after 12 weeks of treatment and one year later. Only 69% of patients taking muscle relaxants reported similar results."
"Patients with chronic low-back pain treated by chiropractors showed greater improvement and satisfaction at one month than patients treated by family physicians. Satisfaction scores were higher for chiropractic patients. A higher proportion of chiropractic patients (56% vs 13%) reported their low-back pain was better. On the other hand, nearly one-third of medical patients reported that their low-back pain was worse."
Nyendo et al. Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics. 2000
"Acute and chronic chiropractic patients experienced better outcomes in pain, functional disability and patient satisfaction. Clinically important differences in pain and disability improvement were found for chronic patients."
